Search Morgan County Court Records

Morgan County court records search starts with the state court system because Colorado does not publish full case files through a county-run case portal. Public users can look up Morgan County court records through docket tools, request case-file documents from the court, use a paid register of actions vendor, or contact the local clerk for older files and copy needs. The search path depends on whether the matter is a District Court case, a County Court case, a Fort Morgan municipal case, or a record held outside the court system.

Search Morgan County Court Records

The main public starting point is the Colorado Judicial Branch docket search. It is free and can show hearing and docket information for Morgan County cases when the search includes a non-date filter. It is not a full document portal. The Judicial Branch states that direct online access to court records is not available through its website, so a docket hit should be treated as a locator, not as the complete case file.

For copies, dispositions, divorce decrees, and case-file documents, use the Judicial Branch public records access guide and its online records request process. After a request is submitted, the court that holds the case contacts the requester. For Morgan County state cases, that court is Morgan Combined Court, where Clerk of Court Debra Welsch handles District Court and County Court records.

  1. Open the Colorado Judicial Branch docket search and choose Morgan County or Morgan Combined Court.
  2. Select County, District, or Both for court type, depending on the case level.
  3. Choose a date range, then add a required non-date filter such as party name, case number, attorney, courthouse, or case class.
  4. Review the docket result for court, case class, hearing date, party, and division clues.
  5. Request copies from the Judicial Branch records request process or contact Morgan Combined Court when a document, certified copy, or older file is needed.

The Judicial Branch identifies CoCourts as a vendor for real-time register of actions searches. CoCourts is a paid access channel and does not provide document downloads. Government and internal users may also see the Colorado State Courts Data Access sign-in system, but that system contains court data, not case documents, and it is not the ordinary copy request route for the public.

Morgan County Court Records Fields

The docket search fields matter because Morgan County court records cannot be pulled by date alone. A date range is only one part of the search. The official form requires another filter, so a user who only knows a hearing day should add Morgan County, Morgan Combined Court, a party name, attorney name, court type, or a case-number segment.

Field LabelTypeRequiredNotes / Format

According to the Colorado Judicial Branch docket search page, users must apply at least one filter in addition to date. The Morgan County filter is often the cleanest starting point when the case number is unknown.

Morgan County Court Record Types

Morgan County court records are split by court level and by custodian. Morgan Combined Court houses state District Court and County Court functions. District Court handles felony criminal cases, civil cases without the County Court limit, domestic relations, juvenile matters, probate, and mental health matters. County Court handles misdemeanors, many traffic matters, small claims, lower-value civil cases, protection orders, and early felony complaint stages. Fort Morgan Municipal Court is separate and handles city ordinance and municipal traffic cases.

Some records that people ask for at a courthouse are not court records at all. Marriage licenses, civil union licenses, recorded deeds, plats, liens, DD-214 recordings, and county recording index searches belong to the Morgan County Clerk and Recorder. Sheriff reports, booking-related records, jail records beyond public custody tools, and civil process records must be requested from the Morgan County Sheriff's Office or another law enforcement custodian.

  • Civil records include complaints, answers, motions, judgments, garnishments, and satisfaction of judgment filings.
  • Criminal records include charges, advisements, bond orders, pleas, motions, dispositions, judgments, and sentencing entries.
  • Domestic relations records include divorce and legal separation files, with some child, financial, and protected filings restricted.
  • Probate records include estates, wills, guardianships, conservatorships, and protective proceedings handled through District Court.
  • Traffic and municipal records may be in County Court or Fort Morgan Municipal Court, depending on the citation and issuing agency.

Morgan County Court Records Show

A Morgan County register of actions or docket result is usually a structured index of case activity. It can help identify the case number, court, party, attorney, hearing setting, and case class. It does not replace the court file. Motions, orders, exhibits, certified copies, and case-file documents still require Morgan Combined Court or the Judicial Branch records request process.

Case class codes should not be overread without the case record. For example, a class code can help route a search, but the disposition, charge status, or final judgment must come from the court record itself.

Request Morgan County Case Copies

Copies of Morgan County court records come from the court, not from vendor images. The Judicial Branch records request path covers case dispositions, divorce decrees, and records from a specific court case or person. Morgan Combined Court can also be contacted for older case files, copy questions, and records not reflected in public online tools. The local court address is 400 Warner Street, Fort Morgan, CO 80701, phone 970-542-5200, fax 970-542-7091, and email MorganClerksOffice@judicial.state.co.us.

The official access guide is shown in this screenshot from the Colorado Judicial Branch access guide for public records.

Use the Clerk of Court for court files. Use the County Clerk and Recorder only when the record is a recorded document, marriage license, civil union license, or county CORA item.

Morgan County Records Online Limits

Vendor and data systems can help, but each one has a narrow role. The CoCourts register of actions vendor may provide paid real-time case activity for Colorado county and district courts. The vendor data is not the official court record, and the Judicial Branch warns that documents are not downloadable from commercial sites.

The CoCourts source assigned to Morgan County court records is shown here.

Use it to locate case activity, then request the actual court document from the court when a copy is required.

Morgan County also has a separate Tyler/eagleWeb recorded document search portal. That portal is for recorded documents from the County Clerk and Recorder, not court case records from Morgan Combined Court. It requires JavaScript and cookies and carries a county accuracy disclaimer for the index.

The recorded-document portal is shown in this source image from Morgan County.

That distinction prevents a common search error: recorded deeds and liens are county records, while case files and dockets are court records.

Morgan County Court Records Access

Colorado public access depends on the record custodian. County agency records are governed by CORA, while criminal justice records held by law enforcement and prosecutors are governed by the Colorado Criminal Justice Records Act. Court-system records are also governed by Judicial Branch rules, CJD 05-01, and P.A.I.R.R. For Morgan County, that means a case file request may go to Morgan Combined Court, a county administrative record may go to the Clerk and Recorder, and a sheriff report may go to the Sheriff's Office records request channel.

The county CORA source assigned to this page is the Morgan County CORA request page.

It is useful for county records, but it does not replace the Judicial Branch path for court case files.

Note: CORA does not guarantee access in a specific format, and court case documents follow Judicial Branch access rules.

Morgan County Federal Records

Federal records are separate from Morgan County court records. A federal criminal case, federal civil case, bankruptcy matter, or federal appeal is not filed in Morgan Combined Court. The national PACER access site is the main federal case-record system, while the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado, U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Colorado, and Tenth Circuit use federal court channels.

The assigned PACER source image appears below.

CourtListener can be useful for opinions and some docket references, but it is not the official Morgan County court record source.

Restricted Morgan County Court Records

Some Morgan County court records are public in part and restricted in part. Juvenile records are controlled by the Colorado Children's Code and CJD 05-01. Sealed criminal records remain available to certain criminal justice agencies, the court, and the District Attorney under official guidance. Adoption files, mental health proceedings, minor information, protected addresses, financial account numbers, Social Security numbers, and confidential attachments may be withheld or redacted.

Sealing is record-specific and court-specific. A person seeking to seal a Morgan County criminal matter should identify whether the case was filed in District Court, County Court, or Fort Morgan Municipal Court, then use current Colorado Judicial Branch sealing forms and eligibility rules. Adult criminal sealing and juvenile expungement are different legal paths, so they should not be treated as the same request.
